The origin of the Castle of Vélez Blanco dates back to medieval times, but the stately work begun in 1506 caused the practical destruction of the previous fortress to face the new defensive and representative demands of the new Castilian lords.
The castle, with an area of almost 2,500 m2, is formed by two buildings linked by a drawbridge that is the entrance to the second enclosure. The first space, built on the old Islamic citadel, is a quadrangular fortification of extremely simple forms and certain artillery potential. The second is a turreted palace, presided over by a keep.
The palace is organized around a Court of Honor, a majestic work in white marble from Macael, which represents a sculptural jewel of Renaissance art. The patio was sold in 1904 and is currently exhibited in the "Metropolitan Museum of Art" in New York. It also shows elements of late Gothic style with certain Mudejar features.
This Monumental Enclave, was declared a National Monument in 1931.

It's located on Francisco Tirado street, on the corner of Doctor Caballero street. Property that represents the typical house of mid-nineteenth century of a bourgeois family, being one of the last exponents of this era in Puerto Lumbreras, is endowed with a great cultural and architectural interest. From its origins the house belonged to the family popularly known as "Los Mayorajos".
In recent years it was acquired by the City of Puerto Lumbreras to rehabilitate it and turn it into a Public Space, which in addition to rescuing a property of these characteristics, aims to be the beginning of the tourist-cultural revitalization of the historic center itself and the entire municipality .
Puerto Lumbreras as a place of passage through history, has been and is a town with great gastronomic tradition, enjoy traditional dishes such as migas, aletría, potaje, or rice and turkey. They are traditional products of the "Matanzas", homemade sausages that can be purchased in the township.
Puff pastry sweets are famous in Puerto Lumbreras, since the tradition is preserved by making them bathed in very hot sugar so that they last without the need for a refrigerator. Do not leave without trying the Chinese dessert, throughout the year, or the alfajor or bilbao at Christmas.

It's the highest mountain in the municipality with 1,247m and 1,325.69 hectares, referred to as LIC (Place of Community Interest).
Vegetable landscape, formed by holm oaks and pines of great size, rosemary, lavender and rockrose.
Places of Interest: the chasms of La Tinaja, and "La del Escipión", the ramblas of Vilerda and Nogalte, where we find forests in a gallery formed by tarajes, pomegranates, reeds and reeds.
Flora
There are no large forests in the hamlet of Cabezo de la Jara, although there are some areas that are reminiscent of more fertile times, counting among their species with holm oaks and oaks.
The wild flora is mostly garrigue (scrub), several repopulations of pines and remains of oaks.
Therefore, the vegetation is of Mediterranean type, existing in the Collado of the Half Libra some repopulations of Aleppo pine.
In the vicinity of Casa Amarilla there is an abundance of pine forest.
The fragility of the vegetation cover of the area is subject to a series of circumstances, among which are the climatic conditions, closer to the sub-desert climate than to the Mediterranean.
Fauna
The fauna of Cabezo de la Jara is in full readjustment as there are some species in clear boom while others have almost disappeared due to changes in their habitat, climatic conditions and scarcity of tree mass.
The Bonelli's eagles, hares and goldfinches are part of the species that have almost disappeared, as has happened with the crow.
Instead, as a result of the construction of rafts for irrigation, the ducks are installed in increasing numbers.
It also highlights the black turtle, an animal threatened by the uncontrolled capture to which it has been subjected and with special protection by the law.
The Guadalentín River valley is a natural way of communication with great relevance in medieval times, as it is a border crossing between the kingdoms of Castile and Granada. For this reason it has numerous defensive fortresses and surveillance of the territory, being the Castle of Lorca the most important. The Alfonsina and Espolón Towers, built by Alfonso X after the capitulations of 1244, and the walls, are the most outstanding elements, but also preserve Islamic constructions; the remains of the Jewish quarter and its exemplary synagogue, together with the military buildings of the 19th century, complete an extensive sequence of human occupation. Lorca Taller del Tiempo reopened to the public the monumental complex in 2003, defining an important cultural and tourist space: the Fortaleza del Sol.

The convent church of Santo Domingo is the current headquarters of the Embroidery Museum of the Paso Blanco and it shows a sample of the best embroidery worked in silk and gold. On the ground floor of the building we find a large showcase where the embroidery of the incarnated passage is shown. Large jewels embroidered in gold and silk on red velvet. On the first floor of the building is the office of the President of the Archconfraternity as well as the dependencies of the Brotherhood of Costaleros of the Christ of the Blood, Association of Ladies of the Virgin of Solitude and Brotherhood of Christ of Penance. On the second floor is the current Workshop of Bordados del Paso.
After its renovation in October 2009, the museum of the Paso Encarnado-muPaen, has several new features, such as a flat screen projection that talks about the neighborhood where the museum is located, its customs and a brushstroke of its history. Also as a novelty you can visit the office of the President assigned by the Colonel of the XIII Mallorca Infantry Regiment.
In a room recently set up for this purpose we are presented with a pioneering audiovisual novel in the way of projecting the images since they are projected simultaneously in several points of the room. This narrates the main acts of the Holy Week of the embodied Step, the passion of a "neighborhood" protagonist of the Holy Week Lorca. This projection is unique in Lorca and is a necessary stop because through it you can know the only part of the Easter week that is different from the rest.
Finally, the new showroom that replaces the old meeting room and where you can see three Lorca embroidery jewels in silk and gold made by embroiderers of the embodied passage. It is remarkable in this room that is the only one in the embroidery museums of Lorca in which visitors are a few centimeters away from the pieces without any glass that hinders contemplation of these works.
We hope you like it.
